Next Impression 3 Biggest Mistakes

I recently came across an article posted by Rajat Taneja, Exceutive VP and CTO at Electronic Arts, entitled The 3 Biggest Resume Mistakes. I found the article very interesting, helpful, and easy to digest. Mr. Taneja is very well credentialed in the resume review category (which he clarifies), and offers this bit of wisdom that I find to be the greatest overarching influence when preparing a resume: "Great candidates with fantastic backgrounds can get condemned to the 'maybe' pile because the resume didn’t represent them well and didn’t make an impression in the 30 seconds an average hiring manager spends on filtering a resume."

Mr. Taneja identifies the three biggest mistakes to be the following:

  1. Focusing on the wrong thing - listing tasks instead of achievements
  2. Writing a thesis when a synopsis is needed - keep it concise
  3. Leaving unanswered red flags - address red flags and spin them into a positive
